Swimways Mural Project

Community Art, Exterior Mural
In 2025 The North Wales Rivers Trust (NWRT) approached me to collaborate on an aspect of their Swimways Project — connecting marine and freshwater habitats. The project involved installing living sea walls along the Menai Strait, specially designed panels that mimic natural rock pools and crevices, creating pockets of habitat for barnacles, seaweeds, molluscs, and small fish. They help boost biodiversity, soften coastal infrastructure, and support healthier intertidal zones where marine life can thrive.
In order to raise awareness of this project within the community NWRT went into Ysgol Y Borth, a local primary school, where they ran a workshop with the children to design their own sea wall tiles. This is where I came in, I was commissioned to create a large scale painted backdrop for these tiles to sit against on a wall in the primary school. Using a fun and friendly style I painted a number of the key native species that can be found in the Straits with an aquatic backdrop. The shapes in the middle are where the sea wall tiles will be installed.
